Ana Paula Kojima Hirano is originally from São Paulo, Brazil. As a PhD student in Harvard's Department of Romance Languages and Literatures, her studies have focused on Brazilian literature, film theory, and the intersection between history and fiction. Her on going dissertation is on Brazilian filmmaker Eduardo Coutinho. Ana Paula has several years of experience teaching Portuguese and through her dedicated work she has won several awards for excellence in teaching at Harvard. Prior to coming to Harvard, she earned her undergraduate degree from the University of São Paulo in Economics. She also co-directed One Day We Arrived in Japan, a documentary film about immigration that follows three Brazilian families in their journey to Japan and their pursuit of a better life.
