Tong Chen has been teaching Chinese at MIT since 1997. Chen’s research interest include the use of multi-media in the teaching and learning of Chinese language, language pedagogy, second language acquisition,  
an oral history project of the Cultural Revolution in China, and an oral history project of Generations in Change. He is also pioneering the use of Skype in the classroom to link MIT students to their counterparts in China for a cross-cultural and cross-linguistic exchange. Chen has written several textbooks and edited several Chinese-English dictionaries. His latest publication is A Passage to Success. Chen came to the United States in 1991. He has a Master’s degree in education from Heidelburg University. He is a board member of the New England Chinese Teachers Association.
