Wakana Maekawa is a Lecturer in Japanese. Prior to joining MIT in 2017, she has taught Japanese at Harvard University, Hamilton College and Texas Tech Univeristy. She has also taught summer intensive courses at Middlebury Summer Language School, International Christian University in Tokyo and Cornell University. She received her B.A. in Education with a concentration in Teaching Japanese as a Foreign Language from Aichi University of Education, and her M.A. in Applied Linguistics and Second Language Studies from Texas Tech University. Maekawa, who was trained in language pedagogy, received the national Hamako Ito Chaplin Award for excellence in teaching Japanese in 2011. Her research interests include Japanese language pedagogy, technology in language education, and the development of Content-Based Instruction in Japanese.
