China4Kids is a K-12 outreach project designed to promote understanding of Chinese culture and history at the elementary level in Massachusetts. The content for the project has been selected to support the Massachusetts History and Social Science Curriculum Framework, Grade 4 Learning Standards (4.1-4.6). Some supplemental material has also been included for students interested in learning about aspects of traditional Chinese culture that continue to have relevance today. The project seeks to promote understanding of "Chinese civilization" not as static and timeless, but as a dynamic and evolving cultural heritage. Students are encouraged to think about links between past and present, continuity and change. The project has resulted in a website, endorsed by Primary Source as an online resource on Chinese culture for teachers and students, and outreach talks. A companion site focusing on Chinese American immigration history is under development.
